Maria Castillo Fernandez, the European Union Special Representative for the Indo-Pacific at the European External Action Service, met with Deputy Foreign Minister Arun Hemachandra during her official visit to Sri Lanka today (09).
The discussions focused on Sri Lanka’s strategic importance in the Indo-Pacific region, maritime security, global connectivity, trade, and energy security. Both sides also discussed regional cooperation initiatives, EU investment opportunities in renewable and green energy projects, and Sri Lanka’s commitment to governance, human rights, and legal reforms linked to the GSP+ programme.
Carmen Moreno and senior officials from both sides also attended the meeting.
