In celebration of International White Cane Safety Day, the first flag was symbolically pinned on Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake at the Presidential Secretariat today (15), marking the start of flag sale week
President of Sri Lanka Federation of the Visually Handicapped Nilmini Samaraweera, pinned the flag to Dr. Kumanayake.
On this occasion, Dr. Kumanayake also presented white canes to representatives of the Federation who visited the Presidential Secretariat in celebration of White Cane Day.
Mrs. Samaraweera stated that profits from the flag-selling campaign will be directed towards the welfare of the visually impaired community.
The Secretary to the President also engaged in a cordial discussion with the representatives of the Federation. Senior Additional Secretary to the President Kapila Janaka Bandara, Assistant Secretary of the Federation Chameera Pubudu Kumara and several others were present at the event.
